3. Write about something new you tried.
I became a hiker this past weekend. I tried hiking before and gave up. I determined it was too much like labor and delivery. You work, you endure, you grunt, and you forge ahead…but the fruit of your labor when you give birth is an actual child whereas the reward for all that physical exertion spent on a hike is just a view. Somehow panting my way to the top of the mountain to get a look at another mountain or a lake or a valley just wasn’t doing it for me.
And I still stand by that.
However, Maile mentioned she’d like to go on a hike and I decided we could give it a try. I googled the easiest and most rewarding hikes I could find within an hour of home. I was looking for a high return on a low investment and I found Franklin Falls. Franklin Falls is supposed to be an easy hike for kids which makes it a popular hike for families. It takes you about a mile into a mountainside and stops at a gigantic waterfall and then you just turn around and walk back. Sounded like an instagrammable moment to me, so off we went!
And it was gorgeous.
So I’m a hiker now. But only on relatively flat terrain that ends somewhere awesome in less than 2 miles.

I forgot to mention I enjoyed your pics from your hike. That’s the kind of hiking I like to do too! No mountain climbing for me!

Looking for a high return on a low investment … hahaha!! Actually, I’m like that too. I can’t do any hardcore hiking because I’m broke as joke but I do love going for nature strolls. We definitely don’t have anything that fantastic here. It’s all flat and boring. Our major hiking attraction is a walkway that the city created on top of a landfill. If the sun catches it right, you can smell the sulfur gases underneath it. It’s literally BREATH-TAKING.
That place looks so spectacular. I’m glad that you didn’t get mauled by any wildlife or rip a groin muscle thing. That would have ruined the experience fo sho.
