3. List your top 6 favorite summer moments so far.
We are almost officially one month into our Summer vacation and I’m here to report on the progress I’ve made on my summer bucket list just three weeks ago.
If you will recall, I mentioned that I would love to check off the following items with my kids:
- Go Camping
- Visit 5 Volcanoes
- Meet Alpacas
- Go Bowling
- A Late Night Movie
- Sunset on the Ocean
- Foster Healthy Kittens
- Get Rich Quick
One out of eight is not so bad, right? WE WENT CAMPING!
When I finish editing that video I’ll share it along with a campsite review. The weekend away with my whole family definitely leads the number one spot on my list of favorite summer moments so far. And it’s the only thing on the list I’ve accomplished…I have my work cut out for me if I’m going to make progress on that by the time summer ends!
The good news is, the Alpaca tour is already scheduled for this Friday…it’s the volcanoes I’m worried about.
So what are my remaining best summer moments so far?
2. Camping with my BFF sans kids
My friend Marci owns a trailer so she invites me to crash her camping excursions and I try to squeeze in one night. So far this year I’ve made it to the ocean for a night (too cloudy for a sunset) and more recently to a river for rafting. The tube I was floating on popped and left me stranded and toppling downstream for a minute, but the fun that was had up until that moment and after made up for my sore bum.
3. A weekend away at my sister in law’s cabin in Port Ludlow

Last summer one of my favorite weekends was spent in Port Ludlow so we hit up my sister in law for availability to squeeze in another weekend this year. We roasted hot dogs and s’mores over an open fire, we spent some time beachcombing and I chased Laina with a dead crab that she thought was still living. Just good old fashioned family fun right there!
4. Attending my own surprise birthday party to celebrate turning 40 and a half.
My sister convinced me that I was doing her a favor by attending her friend’s (actually old family friends) birthday party. She said her friend loved my YouTube channel that her husband made a special request that I attend with my sister. It would just make the friend’s day! I didn’t even question the validity of the story, in fact, it was so completely believable to me that I just couldn’t back out (even though I wanted to stay home) when I knew my sister was depending on my attendance. Long story short, when we entered the bar I saw a whole lot of my family and friends and no friend of my sisters at all. The party was for me to celebrate the 40th birthday party that we never had (I was fine with never having) and it was the most fun ever.
5. Ice Cream Dates with my Kids
One way I coerce my kids to leave the house with me for an “activity” is to find a random ice cream shop to try out. It’s a win for all of us because we all get some fresh air, we get to explore whatever town we end up at for ice cream AND…we get ice cream. What’s not to love? We found Ice Cream Social in Ruston this week, Hello Robin about two weeks ago, and we also managed a trip to Subzero Ice Cream where you watch them freeze your ice cream with dry ice. It doesn’t get much more exciting than that.
6. Summer League Volleyball
Lastly, Summer League Volleyball games have been a favorite moment. Even though summer volleyball means that fall volleyball is right around the corner and our lives will once again be nonstop volleyball, I’ve actually missed it. I love watching the girls play and I’m excited to see both of them play for their high school this year!
I might still have a few things to knock off my official goal list, but I’d say we’ve done pretty good so far!
Now it’s your turn!
Choose a prompt, post it on your blog, and come back to add your name to the link list below. Be sure to sign up with the actual post URL and not just your basic blog URL (click on the title of your post for that URL). For good comment karma try to comment on the three blogs above your name!!
The Prompts:
1. List 8 things you miss about summer when you were a child.
2. Tell about the worst sunburn you ever received. How did that happen?
3. List your top 6 favorite summer moments so far.
4. What five images paint a perfect picture of summer to you? Put those five images together in a piece of writing.
5. Write about the most humid place you’ve ever been.
6. Share a Summer Camp memory.
7. Your favorite summer view so far.
John Holton says
And just think: you have the rest of the summer to work on the other goals! Or not. “Get rich quick” would probably require winning the lottery (you have the lottery in Washington, right?) or the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes, and we all know what the odds of that happening are. But hey, *someone’s* got to win, right?
It looks like y’all are having a good time. That’s what matters…
