It’s official! We have a new baby in the house and I am in LOVE. We named our most recent group of foster kittens after Washington State Volcanoes and the kitten we adopted was named Rainier. His name is not settled though because Laina is his official adoptive mother and she insists his name is Cow. I cannot bring myself to call that little Angel Cow, however, Rainier does not fly off the tongue either. Rather, I have been calling him “Little Baby Boy Little Chunky Baby.”
The best thing about this kitten adoption is that since it is Laina’s kitten, I don’t have to keep track of it. Litty Chunky Baby stays in Laina’s room when she is in her room and she takes care of all of his food and toilet needs. I just snuggle him when he wobbles himself down the stairs. I can play and snuggle him to my hearts content and then send him back home to his mother when I’m done. This must be what grandparenting is like. Sign me up!! ….but not too soon of course.
My only regret is thinking maybe we should have adopted two because it seems there is now an opening in the second housecat slot. My big kitty Isis has been disappearing for days and days at a time. One of my neighbors finally messaged me that she only recently realized the kitty taking up residence in her backyard belonged to me. Isis has totally ditched me for another family. I only see her maybe once a week at this point when she finally comes home to eat. More than anything I’m relieved that she’s ok and not lost out in the wild somewhere.
It will be interesting to see if she comes back home when the weather gets worse because I know that family will not be letting her inside. Come on home to mama Isis!
She will have a new Little Baby Boy waiting to greet her!

Poor Isis is probably thinking that it’s getting crowded with Rainier and (if you’re still taking care of him) your brother’s cat (is that right?). Have the rest of his brothers and sister been spoken for? If not, maybe there’s the source for your other kitten. It’s good for them to have someone to play with, and Isis might play with him like he was a stuffed toy, and we can’t have that, now can we? 🤣
We’ve always had so many around here that having just the one cat is a bit of an adjustment for us. Mary keeps talking like she wants to get another, and soon, but we agreed to wait a year after Molly joins the other three dozen at the Bridge before even considering that. I have a feeling, though, that the timeframe may be considerably shorter…

Yes, I’m watching my brother’s kitty Berry. We allowed her to go outside and she ran Isis off the property. I’ve been trying to coax Isis back, but she’s fed up with the newcomer. She hasn’t met the baby yet. And actually Berry has been playing nicely with the baby so that pair in the house is kind of fun to watch! Too bad I can’t just hand deliver a new kitty to you and Mary. I would pick one out just especially for you!

Such an adorable kitty. If she wants to call him Cow she could go for the Spanish word for cow, which is Vaca.
Sounds nicer and rolls off the tongue. (pronounced like Baca) Or just Rain for short, that would be pretty, but really most cats answer to “Kitty, kitty.”
Our cat, Sunni who passed, would turn to look at you if you said her name. If she was in the mood to do so. Since we adopted her, she came with the name “sunshine,’ which we shortened to Sunni. She was black and white like a Holstein cow and we often said, if we’d named her ourselves, we’d have named her Pequena Vaca (little cow),

First of all, he’s ADORABLE!
Secondly, I know how hard it can sometimes be to pick the “perfect” name for pets. On one hand, Laina does know that cows are girls, right? On the other hand, my nickname all the way through high school was Cow, so I’m partial. It’s a top choice name.
In the meantime, Little Baby Boy Little Chunky Baby (thank you, cut-and-paste) suits him. Congratulations, Grandma! And hopefully, Isis will remember where the heart is

Hmmm….Cow?
Well, since MadamDW suggested the Spanish “Vacca” name….I’ll throw out the Italian name for cow…”Mucca”!
Guess while I’m at it, there’s “Ushi”, in Japanese, “Vache”, in French and “Kuh” in German.
Endless possibilities but, I’m leaning on Little Chunky Ushi!!
I also agree with John about Isis taking a catsabbatical, she will return, once she’s done pouting.
