I love a good storm and we don’t get them very often, but last night it knocked our power out and we’ve gone all day without wifi. It feels like the old days again when you would sit in a room with your siblings and throw yourself across the room to keep a balloon from touching the ground as your preferred form of entertainment. Except unlike back then, today I do have a spotty hotspot on my phone I can connect to and I’m glad I do because we don’t have any balloons.
The storm and lack of internet connection has been a blessing in disguise because kicking me off of social media is exactly what I didn’t know I needed. Trump should be thanking big tech for cutting those stressful platforms from his life. ;) I actually don’t spend a ton of time on social media anymore because between politics, social injustice issues, and covid it can just be too much. If I am on social media it’s to look at delicious recipes or see cute kids or to laugh at dopey videos. I find myself muting people on Facebook who tend to rant or create posts for “the people in the back.” I made the mistake of logging into Twitter for a break from Facebook and that’s like walking into the eye of a hurricane and quite frankly I’ve had enough.
I’d really like the times to be precedented again.
The Prompts:
1. Share a favorite recipe you’ve been loving lately.
2. Write about what helps you stay motivated during these unprecedented times?
3. Write a blog post about something that made you smile this week.
4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: enough
5. Write about the last argument you witnessed (could be a silly one)…did you take a side?
6. Share a memory about something you did as a child that made a family member angry.

I am so very much with you on stepping-back from social-mania! Like you, I hop on only to connect with family and a few friends, then, run like the dickens when drama starts to come up on my feed. Sometimes, it’s difficult not weighing-in with a comment but, mostly, I just keep scrolling while keeping opinions to myself.
Trust me, I enjoy any healthy debate but that has definitely fallen by the wayside. So much has changed and so have the people caught up in the process.
Hope your power came back on, next time you go shopping, stock up on balloons!
Stay safe!

Ugh yes to social media. I hate this weird notion that people have an obligation to share all their thoughts about issues on social media, like these platforms are our new 9 to 5 that doesn’t pay and saps the life out of you. No thanks. I use Facebook sparingly to share pics of the kids to out of town family and friends but try not to linger for more than 5 minutes because I always regret it these days. I wouldn’t touch Twitter with a ten foot pole.

I dropped off Twitter, Pinterest, and Reddit yesterday and it’s as though a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.I’m keeping Facebook and Instagram for now, although I spend little time on Facebook. Instagram’s nice because of the pictures.
Next time you go to the store, buy balloons. That’s a fun game.
Sometimes I think about the pre-Internet days and sigh and remember how wonderful it was…
Who are the kitties? I think one might have been adopted by one of your daughtera, another is one Pat doesn’t know about, and I don’t think the white one is Isis.

I might just follow your lead. I’ve never been into Reddit, but I’m almost to the point of leaving Facebook. It’s just that it’s a nice connection to family and friends if I need it so maybe I’ll keep it and just get on sparingly. That is Isis on the window sill. She mostly lives in Maile’s room but comes out every once and awhile to hiss at the boys. The black one is Cow and he’s the one Pat was aware we adopted. The Grey one is Oliver and we snuck him in, but Pat knows he’s ours now. I do catch him playing with the kitties so I think he’s all bark and no bite.
